June 5 is observed as World Environment Day. World Environment Day is a global event observed on 5 June annually to spread awareness about environmental protection. The day is being observed since 1974. This year # Only One Earth is the campaign for World Environment day. It calls for collective, transformative action on a global scale to celebrate, protect and restore our planet.
On June 6th 2022 Marian Senior Secondary School organized an awareness program on the occasion of World Environment Day. All students and teachers participated with full energy in this program. Science, Social Science and Art Education Departments organized this year’s programmes.
The objective of the program was to spread awareness among people about saving our environment from various types of pollution and to plant more and more tree to make our mother earth full of greenery.
Our programs started with school assembly at 8.45 am. Abigail M S of class X delivered a speech about the importance of conserving nature. She spoke about the hazards that may arise due to global warming. Also raised concerns about the various waste like plastics, E-waste and factory wastes which have made the water bodies dead.
Devika M Nair of Class X recited a Malayalam poem about the shattered situation, Earth is facing.
Students bought saplings from their homes which was to be planted in the school campus.
Principal Mrs. Rajatha B, Vice Principal Mrs. Reena Thomas and Headmaster Mr. Anish K Cherian inaugurated the event by planting a sapling. After that, all the students started planting their saplings. Teachers also helped the students in planting.
Charts made by students of various classes creating awareness towards environmental degradation were exhibited in the corridors.
A collage competition was also conducted to make the students understand the importance of environmental conservation.
